How to Lose Weight Even with Limited Mobility

How to Lose Weight Even with Limited Mobility - In today’s society, many of us could stand to lose a few pounds. Daily living has become more sedentary for all of us, and it all adds up. For those of us suffering from limited mobility, the situation becomes even worse. If you have limited mobility, it’s even harder to get any sort of decent exercise to get your metabolism moving. Fortunately, there are a few simple things you can do to lose weight, despite your limited mobility.

Exercise

Believe it or not, there are exercises you can do, even if you can’t walk. The most important thing in exercising for weight loss is cardiovascular exercises. Cardio causes your metabolism to rise and your body to burn fat more efficiently, rather than storing it.

Let’s take a look at some exercises you can try.

  • Water aerobics at a gym, supervised by a trainer;
  • Physical therapy with light weights, stability balls, and exercise bands;
  • Arm cycle – also known as an arm ergometer, a pedal machine for your arms that can be used on a tabletop while sitting;
  • Simple exercises you do at home that require little movement, such as roller chair workouts or resistance cleaning.

Sweat!

The most important thing you do while exercising with limited mobility is sweat! Sweating means that your body is working and burning calories. Just because those people out there use Pride lift chair recliners doesn’t mean they can’t get their sweat on! Though you don’t want to push yourself too hard – people that require Golden lift chairs shouldn’t attempt to get up out of a normal chair on a regular basis, for example – you can still challenge yourself in safe and easy ways.

Diet

It’s easy to feel sorry for yourself if you are suffering from limited mobility (and no one would begrudge you that) and treat yourself to all kinds of unhealthy foods to compensate for the loss of mobility that you feel. On the other hand, it’s up to you to keep a healthy diet despite your mobility issue. The fact of the matter is that you are not burning calories as efficiently as you once did, so you have to take steps to ensure that you are taking in less empty calories and less fat.

Instead of sucking down soda all the time, try drinking more fruit juice and water. When you feel an overwhelming crave, busy your mind with something else for about ten minutes or so to make the crave go away. Another good way to kill hunger is to drink a lot of water. Hunger is often misplaced thirst, so a glass of water can often quench the hunger you feel.
